She has a hit show, a killer voice and, to top it all off, “Glee” star Lea Michele is closing out 2009 with a Golden Globe nomination.

The Bronx-born, Tenafly-raised Michele is up for best performance by an actress in a television series (comedy or musical), for her spot-on portrayal of overachiever Rachel Berry on Fox’s breakout hit

Best of 2009: TV

December 25, 2009

“Glee” (Fox): Right away, when this hour bowed in a one-time showing last spring, we saw this was not your typical TV show. First, there was music, but it wasn’t a musical. It was a drama/comedy series where songs and dances came from a natural place: a struggling glee club. Second, it was about a high school, yet it had both kid and grown-up appeal. Third, it introduced one of the most remarkably talented young women on TV, Lea Michele as Rachel, and gave us one of the tube’s funniest, most despicable villains (played perfectly by Jane Lynch). Last but not least, it reimagined established songs in such a fresh way that they became new hits of both the download and CD kind. In sum, “Glee,” the real tour de force from “Nip/Tuck’s” Ryan Murphy, had to be the most innovative gem of the year.

Scavenger Hunt Winners!

December 19, 2009

We have a winner! Well, two. The winners of the Scavenger Hunt, who will be receiving Glee Season 1 on DVD, are Maisey and Kelsea! Congratulations to you both :) [I've already e-mailed you, if you didn't receive it please write to contest@leamicheleweb.org]

23 people participated and everyone got the pictures correctly, so there won’t be a ranking or anything. It was very easy! I loved the entries that got creative, specially the many who chose Finn as someone she ‘looks up to’ :P

Ok then! Thank you everyone for participating and congratulations all! You’re all winners in my eyes, even though you won’t be getting the free DVDs. I won’t either, we can all be bitter together.

Special request: if anyone already owns the DVD or will be getting it soon and would be willing to make screencaptures of the extras for the site, please contact me. Full credit will be given as usual and we’ll be forever grateful.

“Glee” co-star Lea Michele is bringing Broadway to prime-time television.

The show features choral renditions of pop songs like “Don’t Stop Believin’” and standards such as Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile.” Michele was featured in the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening” and, earlier this season, Tony-award winning actress Kristen Chenoweth put in a guest appearance (the pair performed a duet of “Maybe This Time” from the musical “Cabaret”).

The Fox TV program, which follows the adventures of a fictional high school glee club, recently went on break, and will return in April with new episodes.  This week, “Glee” was nominated for four Golden Globes (the most of any TV show), including one nod for Michele. A DVD boxed set of the first 13 episodes is due out Dec. 29. (Fox is owned by News Corp. which owns the Wall Street Journal.)

Michele’s “Spring Awakening” castmate Jonathan Groff will be joining the cast as a member of rival glee group Vocal Adrenaline. Reportedly, Tony-winner Idina Menzel will be joining the cast as well, though neither Fox nor Michele will confirm it. (”Idina’s a really good friend of mine and I think that she’s incredibly talented,” says Michele.)
